With more than 85% of food imported from off-island, many Hawai‘i Island residents are concerned about our community’s food security. These workshops empowered participants to reduce their food budgets, increase consumption of fresher, more nutritious food, decrease the impact of spiraling fuel costs, and help create an abundance of food for sharing or sale. The workshops took place in Kona (October 18, 2008), Hawi/Kapa'au (March 8, 2009), Pahoa (March 22, 2009), and Ocean View (June 6, 2009). Support for the workshops came from the Hawai'i County Resource Center and Permanent Agriculture Resources.
