The first Puna ‘Ulu Festival took place this past Saturday, March 3, 2012 at Ho‘oulu Lāhui, the site of Kua O Ka Lā Public Charter School at Pū‘āla‘a, adjacent to the ‘Āhalanui County Park warm ponds in Puna.

Much aloha was shared during the festival.
The display tables of the Hawai'i Homegrown Food Network and the Breadfruit Institute were popular.
Speaker presentations were very well attended.
Keoki Kahumoku was one of several artists who donated their musical talents to the festival.

Keone Turalde shared his skills at carving.
Kauhi Maunakea-Forth demonstrated kui 'ai with 'ulu.
Kamehameha Schools Land Assets division, a major sponsor of the festival, displayed their recent work inventorying 'ulu on their lands. Here, Regional Manager Ka'eo Duarte talks story with Hamakua farmer Bill Beach.
Chioki of Kua O Ka La and JB Friday of the University of Hawai'i offered advice on the planting and care of 'ulu trees at the tree sales tent.
